Original Character Analysis

I took it upon myself to give a more defined personality to a character in our collab who was... really lacking - particularly for being the *hero.* I'd really like to know if he's not over-the-top or if he's perhaps too shallow. Maybe there's something I can add, or something that doesn't make sense.

His first entry was made here, by my partner.

Hello. Is there anyone who can offer an opinion on whether or not this gent seems plausible. He's been retrofitted to suit the needs of my plot more than once already, but it's a sprawling, unwieldy plot, and he's fairly the central character of it, and takes up a sizeable chunk of the storyline all for his little lonesome. So, in light of published disasters that have come before, I am more than a little leery of him. 

(Personally, while he doesn't seem to fit the standard litmus tests that you find on the internet, and there are a number of characters in the story to help balance the narrative, he has done some things that shouldn't be met with pity that have evoked pity from his ex-mentor, who would and has left people bleeding to death, and he has a rather fleshed-out backstory in comparison to some of the others.)

What do you guys think?
